Having been in the salty plum business for over 20 years, we are regularly asked about Nuts, Gluten, and Milk. While we are importers, we also buy from other importers to keep the widest variety of products.

The local importers we use are all established companies with decades of importing experience. The manufacturers we use have HACCP and International Certification Network accreditation and certificates. These certificates make it easier to import foodstuff into Australia.
So Do Salty Plums Contain Nuts and Gluten
In general salty plums are not made with any of these ingredients. They are dried fruit with some food colouring and flavouring. But in saying that, we have about 60 different types of salty plums in stock, it is hard to give a general answer.
For instance, many salty plums have a minimal amount of liquorice, and the liquorice root does not contain gluten. Also, none of our plums are made with nuts either, and of the plums, I have checked, none contained lactose.
The Answer to The Salty Plum Gluten Question
The problem with firm confirmation that salty plums do not contain any of these ingredients is that they share manufacturing lines. Because they are generally small production, many different foods are processed on the same line at other times.
Everything must be fully compliant with the International certification, so it will be super clean and constantly monitored. Still, there is a chance of residual or minute traces of nuts or gluten, which can cause issues for people with allergies.
Our Conclusion To The Question
The basic answer is there is no nut’s or gluten in most salty plums but because of minute residual traces it is prudent to be careful when trying the plum for the first time. If you would like us to write about a salty plum subject please contact us.
